Looking for something to do around Midland this summer? Here are five family-friendly activities
1. Grab an ice cream cone at the Dockside Ice Cream Hut — Enjoy a delicious ice cream come at the Dockside Ice Cream Hut, located adjacent to the Boathouse Eatery at the Midland town dock. The hut is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
2. Spend some time at Midland’s Little Lake Park — This expansive picturesque park in the centre of town is built around a manmade lake. The park has a large beach, picnic shelters, a pavilion, several ball diamonds, a beach volleyball court, washrooms and Tony’s Restaurant.
3. Cycle or walk the Great Trail — Previously known as the Trans Canada Trail, the Great Trail runs through Tay Township, Midland and Penetanguishene. The trail runs along the shores of Georgian Bay and offers a variety of scenic lookouts onto the bay.

Parks Canada and Métis Nation - Saskatchewan signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday that states Métis citizens in the province will receive free entry to national parks and historic sites in the province.
The MOU is part of Parks Canada's open doors program, which is in effect until March 31, 2026.
"Parks Canada is committed to a system of national heritage places that recognizes and honours the contributions of Indigenous peoples, their histories and cultures, as well as the special relationships Indigenous peoples have with traditional lands and waters," Parks Canada said in a statement.

In the Kamloops area, ambassadors will rotate between Lac Le Jeune, Monck and Paul Lake provincial parks.
July 18 is Canada Parks Day and visitors to some Kamloops-area provincial parks will be greeted by Discover Parks Ambassadors.
The ambassadors consist of youth under the age of 30 and volunteers who will be out in the field, engaging visitors with activities, education and more. The pilot program is a new partnership between the BC Parks Foundation and BC Parks, with the goal of providing jobs, training and educational opportunities to B.C. youth, while enhancing the experience of park visitors.

Island Trails has developed a new 700-kilometre walking trail which loops around the perimeter of Prince Edward Island.
Called the Island Walk, it is modelled after the famous long-distance walking trail, the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Island Trails recently launched a website and social media pages that include more information on how Islanders and visitors can complete and enjoy the Island Walk.
“P.E.I. has stunning (open water) vistas and quiet country roads that have a beauty that's comparable to anything we have seen in France, Spain and elsewhere,” said Bryson Guptill, member of the Island Trails and Island Walk committee.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As governments look for long term solutions to seemingly intractable issues, such as mental health and the economy, a new report is highlighting the potential for nature to be at the centre of any COVID-19 recovery plan.
The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) released a report Wednesday morning that outlines parks and wilderness spaces as an advantage Canada already has. However, it also outlines how chronic underfunding has left the system in disrepair, especially in British Columbia.
“The current health pandemic has really demonstrated that parks and nature are an essential part of our health care system. They’re critical to reducing stress and improving wellbeing,” says Tori Ball, a terrestrial campaigner with CPAWS.
